Fun Writing Workshop with the Author of The Invisible Friend

Children’s author Louise Arnold will be giving a talk about her critically acclaimed series of Invisible Friend books. She will show how the debut novel has its origins in a school competition when she was only ten years old, and will take the audience on a tour of her path to publication, sharing her childhood stories, idea notebooks, inspirations and experiences along the way.

There will be plenty of opportunity to ask Louise questions at the end of this session which is then followed by a creative workshop. This will focus on one of her favourite methods for generating story ideas - using props as a stimulus. Children taking part will be invited to test the technique themselves using items taken from Louise’s writing den at home, including Dr Brown’s Bingo Machine and Mildred Rattledust’s monkey, (objects that will be incredibly familiar to those who have read the books) as well as several other items that are bound to get the imagination flowing.

Running time: 2 hours

Tickets £4 (adults free)

It’s time for another competition I have three signed copies of the latest Invisible Friend book, “A Good Day For Haunting” to give away. All you have to do is click on the contact author page, and send me a message telling me which character in the series is your favourite, and why. A Good Day For Haunting

It’s not long to go now until A Good Day For Haunting, the third book in The Invisible Friend series, is available to buy in England. The official release date is the 18th of October, but I’m afraid those of you in America will have a slightly longer wait.

I have recently recieved the Japanese translation of the first book, which is FANTASTIC. The illustrations throughout are simply delightful I’ve taken some photos, so if you’re curious, pop into our forums in The Haunt for a peek.

My goodness, it was hard work choosing a winner. There were just so many excellent entries (in fact, you may well see me naming future cats with some of the names I’ve been sent, as they are far too good to just vanish into cyberspace).

However, I did say I’d announce the winner by today, so here goes:

Congratulations to Nikole, whose Invisible Friend would be Rem, an ex-poltergiest girl who used to make kids sleep in late on school days.

Congratulations also to Melissa, with her Invisible Friend “Suspicious Suzie”. Sounds like someone who would solve crimes as well as stop bullying!

Honourary mention also has to go to Niahla and ”Loretta”, Stephanie and “Ditzy Fritzy”, Megan and “Sweet Song Sally”, and Tina with her friend “Yuuri”. Such brilliant names.
